Ferrari has built another bespoke car, the P540 Superfast Aperta. The lucky client Edward Walson, is the son of John Walson, who invented cable TV. Based on Ferrari’s 599 GTB Fiorano, the car was rebodied to resemble a movie car in the 1968 Italian flick, “Toby Dammit”. (Don’t worry you didn’t miss anything).

Screen shot 2009-12-13 at 6.46.37 AMIn mankind’s golden past, when inventing something like steamships, the first airplane that actually flew or cable television was viewed as a service to humanity rather that exemplified as greedy profiteering, many automobile companies offered similar services. Look at the doorsill or your [older] GM model. See that little blue tag? Fisher was once a bespoke carriage company.

When he took delivery in Italy, Walson said, “This is the most special Christmas present of my life.” The car has the 599′s 6.0-liter V12 rated at 612 hp and 448 lb-ft of torque. Carbon fiber was utilized in greater quantities to keep curb weight from ballooning as the reworked panels were added.

Good to know that, like classic martinis, hand rolled cigars and custom suits, some traces of the apogee of western civilization yet remain in this era characterized by absence of manners, self-mutilation with various and sundry metal appliances and dressing like you just rolled out of a cardboard box under the bridge.

How sad that, now with a choice of 200 channels of screamingly great HD cable TV to watch, all of them are are full of mindless crappola about frustrated housewives and dim-wit game show contestants.

But I digress…hey it’s Christmas Madhouse Shopping out there! Be careful!!!
